The foot of the 18th century Voronezh became one of the ship building centres in Russia. By the small local river Voronezh a large fleet was built which astonished Europe and terrified Asia. In 1696 by the order of Peter I dockyards were established and the first Russian fleet was built: 23 galleys and 4 fire ships, among which there was a 36-canon galleass "Apostle Peter". It was this fleet that won a victory by Azov. Since then the first Russian fleet carries the name of Azovsky fleet.
Operating in the air cargo transportation market for the last sixteen years Polet Airlines has come a long way from an aircraft leasing partnership to one of the major aviation companies, which owns and operates the unique An-124-100 aircraft.

These were hard but remarkable years. We have created a well-equipped and fairly manageable commercial airline. Time proved our feasibility studies have turned out to be correct and risks have paid off: at present Polet enjoys a well-deserved position among the operators specializing in outsize and heavy cargo transportation.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE :- Perhaps the highest profile air charter movement of the recent years was the return of the US Navy's Lockheed Martin EP-3 Orion 'spy-plane', which made a forced landing on China's Hainan island after a mid-air incident with Chinese air force fighters to America in July 2001. The recovery charter started off in total secrecy with the lowest possible profile being maintained - even to the extent that we were required to refer all press enquiries to a US Pentagon military spokesman. Polet aids the French in the race to recover ?The Black Box? from the Red Sea :- Polet Cargo Airlines, the Russian operator of the Antonov An-124-100, (pictured below) transported the French Robotic submarine "Scorpio 2000" from Istres to Cairo ready to begin its mission to recover the "Black Box" from flight FHS604 which went down in the Red Sea off the coast of Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.
